Prophet Muhammad (S) poetry congress to open in Mashhad today

TEHRAN -- The first Congress of Prophet Muhammad (S) Poetry is to open in Mashhad, the capital of Khorasan Razavi Province, today.

Minister of culture and Islamic guidance, several members of parliament, poets, and officials are expected to participate in the opening ceremony, said the secretary of the congress.

Ali Hosseini added that 1985 poets from Iran and foreign countries take part in the congress, presenting 3,100 pieces of poetry on Prophet Muhammad (S).

Abdullah Oztemiz from Turkey in Turkish language section, Ahmed Wasi from India in Urdu, Awazullah Bashara from and Sahami al-Qarini in Arabic, and Saifullah Saifuddin from Uzbekistan in Russian are among the foreign participants, he said.

The English and French language sections’ participants have not been announced yet, Hosseini added.

The two-day program is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), and Khorasan Razavi Culture and Islamic Guidance Department and Poetry Union.

The organizers also hold expert-level roundtable discussions to discuss the biography of panegyrists and to publish two poetry books.
